History

Italian craftsmanship with a cult following. The GT Matic's automatic transmission was unusual for its era — less wrenching than manual-shift bikes, more personality than a modern scooter. Garelli sold mopeds across Europe with both pedal and sub-compact sport frames.

The Matic name signals a centrifugal clutch and two-speed auto trans similar in spirit to Tomos, but with distinctly Italian styling and hardware. US examples are uncommon; most survivors entered through private import or sat in a garage since the original owner bought one on vacation.

Collectors pay premium for original paint and intact badges. Parts take hunting compared to Puch or Tomos, but the ride experience — light weight, eager two-stroke snap — keeps enthusiasts hooked once they have a running example.

Document your engine and frame numbers before ordering from Italy. Garelli rebadged several export models, and parts books are organized by factory code rather than marketing name.
